From Study to Mission: CBS Genesis Class Celebrates Graduation

Fifty-six students of the Certificate in Biblical Studies (CBS) program, proudly known as the Genesis Class, graduated from the two-year course in a solemn and joyful ceremony held on May 17, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Diocesan Shrine of Jesus the Divine Word, located at the Christ the King Mission Seminary, Quezon City, Philippines.

The celebration took place during the Jubilee Year of the Lord 2025, adding deeper significance to the milestone.

The Baccalaureate Mass was presided over by Most Rev. Honesto Ongtioco, D.D., Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Cubao. Bishop Ongtioco, who was the ordinary of the diocese when the CBS program first began. In his homily, he emphasized that academic formation must ultimately lead to personal and communal transformation. He also serves as a member of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on the Biblical Apostolate, further affirming his dedication to Scripture-based ministry.

Also present was Fr. Glen Paul Gomez, SVD, Rector of Christ the King Mission Seminary, who concelebrated the Mass. The 56 graduates were formally presented by Fr. Aris Martin, SVD, Director of the CBS program, and their graduation was confirmed by Fr. Ronnie Crisostomo, SVD, Rector of the Diocesan Shrine of Jesus the Divine Word, which has hosted the certificate program.

CBS graduate Deng Tengco, Biblical Apostolate Animator of the Sto. Domingo Parish Church, and Fr. Randy Flores, SVD, CBS professor and Director of the Biblical Apostolate of the Diocese of Cubao.

A special video message was sent by Bishop Elias Ayuban, CMF, the current bishop of the Diocese of Cubao, commending the graduates and encouraging them in their mission to proclaim the Word of God.

The Genesis Class has spent four semesters attending regular Saturday classes focused on the study of Sacred Scripture. As part of the graduation rites, the new alumni recited the CBS Alumni Pledge, committing themselves to live out and share the Word of God.

A heartfelt thanksgiving address was delivered by Mr. Ronaldo Tamayo, coordinator of the graduating class.
